Capturing the essence of Holden Caulfield

This title might bring to mind vials, syringes, and other tools of that nature. Let me assure you that I would never do something so disgusting to represent a literary work.

(Not in this post, anyway.)

During a mock legislative session -- this is what I do with my summers, you see -- my friend passed me a note that, in an excitingly brief manner, managed to encompass the complex themes of The Catcher in the Rye.

I don't have a scanner, but I think an approximate representation will do.

  1. Hahahah. You need to read King Dork by Frank Portman. As well as being a brilliant portrayal of high school (although through the eyes of a complete dork) and clever as hell, and chock-full of rock and roll and pop culture references, it basically is about a guy who motherfucking hates The Catcher in the Rye. He refers to all the teachers and parents and kids who obsess over it as the "catcher cult"

READ IT!!!!!! also I went to a signing where he performed some of the songs that the character in the book wrote. it's bomb.
